I present on this page the means of transport on the island and what you can go to see and visit. 1) Means of transport : To visit the island, you must find means of transport because it is unthinkable to move from one point to another of the island by feet. You will have the choice between a scooter, a car, a taxi or the hitch-hiking. - hitch-hiking : It is practised much by the young people (and by older people). Do not hesitate, it enables you to make interesting meetings. - Hiring of motor bikes and scooters: Dufau the Harley-Davidson Shop, galleries Commercial, at Saint Jean. Tel.: 05-90-27-54-83. - Gustavia (click on the link.) J ust behind Gustavia a small commonly beach called Shell Beach. Its name comes from the fact that sand is mixed with many shells. While leaving Gustavia in north, you pass by the Tourmente, a hill where the planes pass very close to before landing.- Saint-Jean (click on the link.) S aint-Jean extends along a large round bay bordered by a beautiful white sand beach. You will taste its turquoise water, protected well from the reefs, ideal for the diving, the bathe and the windsurf. Attention on the other hand not to install you in the zone prolonging the airport, that is forbidden for safety reasons.- Lorient (click on the link.) C ontinuously towards the east, you will pass to Lorient, picturesque village having kept a traditional aspect where it is necessary to stop a few moments to admire its pretty cemetery, very far from being lugubrious. By continuing the way, you end on a charming beach.- Grand Cul-de-Sac (click on the link.) S uperb cove protected by a coral barrier. You will walk along the superb beach or cross right through. Indeed, the level of water is far from deep involving high temperatures it is probably one of the hottest beaches.- Petit Cul-de-Sac (click on the link.) S uperb cove more intimate than the preceding one. A little less protected too. Classified for few years as a protected zone (of fishing although one sees some Saint-Barth people there from time to time), you will admire the superb funds populated by a myriad of fish of all the colours.- Morne Vitet (click on the link.) F rom the cove of Petit Cul-de-sac, turn towards the South while passing by Vitet hill, the climax of the island (281 m), offering a splendid panorama. If you know some people from the island, request them to take you along in strolls at the top of the Vitet mount. You will admire there a fantastic sight of all the island.- Saline (click on the link.) Y ou can also go on your road and return towards other superb beaches and in particular to the Saline (Saltworks - exploited until 1972), whose basins are used today as refuge for the migratory birds. Probably one of the most beautiful beaches of the island.- Anse du Gouverneur (clic on the link.) T he steep roads allow many fairy-like points of sight.- Lurin T urn over to Gustavia while passing by Lurin, residential district where the road offers some exceptional points of sight again.- Anse des Cayes A fter having crossed back Gustavia, take towards the west, Colombier direction. You will pass by the "anse des Cayes", another residential district, whose beach is especially attended by the surfers, then toward the "anse des flamands".- Anse des Flamands (click on the link.) This small village in the North-West of the island nested in an exuberant vegetation with a very beautiful shaded beach of coconuts, preserved a very pleasant rural aspect. It extends along a curved bay whose beautiful white sand and clear water are very snuffed from the beach amateurs. While prolonging a little further, you can take a ground path for ten minute and find you with the "anse de Colombier". - Anse de Colombier (click on the link.) This splendid white sand beach, well protected, bordered of a turquoise water and leaned with undulated hills, is situated twenty minutes away by foot of the "Petite Anse". The path crosses a ground of desert aspect, punctuated wild cacti and flowers. You will admire a splendid sight on the "Petite Anse" and the torn coast of the Paschal cove. The beach is ideal for the stroke and the diving with the tuba on the northern side. While returning towards the east, you'll have to stop at Corossol district. - Corossol (clic on the link.) Corossol, approximately 2 km away in the North-West of Gustavia, is one of the small villages of the remained traditional fishermen (not concerned by the tourist development). On his brown sand beach, one can see lines of orange and blue fishing boat and lobster traps. The women (bearing for some the traditional cap answering the soft name of quichenotte) always make artisan articles in sheets of latanier, laying out these baskets, hats, etc in front of their house to attract the purchasers. Do not forget to visit the shell museum with an old very nice Mister who will make you discover the thousands secrecies of the sea and life of the fishermen. - Grand Fond (clic on the link.) Located behind "Petit Cul-de-sac", Grand Fond is a magic corner. One would believe oneself in Brittany. The road wedged between the agitated sea and the "meadows" where some cows graze. The district is primarily inhabited by natives of island. It is calm and peaceful. You will cross there some times of the cars stopped on the edge with on their board people or couple admiring the sight, or some runners.
